Celebrating World Immunization Week 2019

Vaccines work: We are protected together

Celebrated in the last week of April, World Immunization Week aims to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease. Immunization saves millions of lives every year and is widely recognized as one of the world’s most successful and cost-effective health interventions. Yet, there are still nearly 20 million unvaccinated and under-vaccinated children in the world today.

The theme of this year’s campaign is Protected Together: Vaccines Work!, and the campaign will celebrate Vaccine Heroes from around the world – from parents and community members to health workers and innovators – who help ensure we are all protected, at all ages, through the power of vaccines.

In keeping with World Immunization Week’s theme to celebrate health workers and innovators that keep us all protected through the power of vaccines, JHVI will hold its 11th annual Vaccine Day on Friday, April 26, 2019.  JHVI and CIR Director Dr. Ruth Karron is set to present CEPI CEO and this years Vaccine Day keynote speaker, Dr. Richard Hatchett to discuss New Models for Developing Vaccines Against Epidemic Diseases.  The address will be followed by a panel discussion and poster session and reception.
